At this very moment, as many as 3000 U.S. veterans sit in immigration detention centers, awaiting probable deportation.

Many other immigrant veterans have already been deported.

This is an outrage and demonstrates a lack of respect for the sacrifices they made to our country.

Change.org has a petition targeting Congress and the Chairman of the House Committee on Veteran's Affairs, asking for a stop to the deportations and for immigrant veterans to be recognized as American nationals who cannot be deported.

You can send a letter to Congress by taking action here: http://war.change.org/actions/view/stop ... y_veterans

Thank you for your support.

And on the war<dot>change<dot>org website is this article <http://war.change.org/blog/view/immigrant_veterans_should_not_be_deported> and Mr. Jones added some links in a comment box that you can find at the bottom of that page.

Here I found what is very much like a fact sheet and may be a good idea to view early in your own research. <http://www.migrationinformation.org/feature/display.cfm?ID=683> The links on that page for the two executive orders result in 404s, but I was able to track down one of the EOs. Executive Order with subject line, Expedited Naturalization Aliens Noncitizen Nationals Serving in Active-Duty <http://nodis3.gsfc.nasa.gov/displayEO.cfm?id=EO_13269_>.

This article provides two more specific cases we can add to the one provided by Mr. Jones on his website. <http://seattlepostglobe.org/2010/01/15/non-citizen-veterans-facing-deportation-despite-service-to-us>

I found a New York Times article on this subject and some further numbers are provided by Ms. Preston. <http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/15/us/15immig.html>

Finally, for this first shot at doing some research on this subject, I thought it might be a good idea to find something pre-9/11. This is dated July 7, 2000 <http://www.slate.com/id/1005634/>.

I'm afraid that is all the time I have right now for research on this subject. Hope that helps.
