We have tried several buddy search forums and have had no luck.
So Now I am trying it here.
My husband carried home two photo albums that belonged to his friend Edwin. Edwin haled from the Bronx or Brooklyn, Husband cant remember which. The information below is all we have on him from a letter concerning his promotion. Does anyone have new buddy sights we can go to? My Husband is now gone, passed away June 23rd of this year, but I will not throw out these albums until I have exausted all possibilties.
thanks

Very good of you to try and get the albums to him.

Let me ask if you know what rank he was promoted to?

With name, rank, and service number (That's a service number, right?) we should be able to help you out. Actually with the service number without the rank it may also be possible. I'll know more after our post meeting this weekend. I'll get back to you.

Wow Someone actually responded thanks so much.

He was promoted to Lance Corporal and I am thinking that yes the numbers I listed would be his service numbers as they follow his name.
I will check back again on this sight sooner. I was checking every other day then just gave up.
I Hope this happens, its been so long...
thanks
Olga

Welcome aboard and condolences on your loss.

Do you know what unit he served with during his tour in Vietnam.

Company, battalion, division

Hi
I am not real sure. I would have to check my husbands paper work as they were together. Let me ask this? Even though they were together they could still possibly be in different companies correct?
I do know he was part of the special dog unit. Right now I am not sure what that was called. But there is a photo in the album of the whole team along with the canines.
My computer is in the shop, hopefully will have it back early this week.
so please keep checking back I will respond as soon as I can.

Wait I just remember I do have a couple of cards and post cards addressed to him, that should have some of the information we need right?
Ugh I got to get my computer back!!!!!!!
thanks
O

I am extremely happy to report that Edwin Marrero has been found!! Unbelievable as it still seems to me, even after talking with him on the phone and confirming he was indeed the real Edwin Marrero.
Please check out the the stories on the NY Times blog pages of " Lens" here is the link

As many commented on the New York Times website, this is indeed a great result for your efforts, Olga. Congratulations to you and those that helped you.

Interesting that the two families that were connected 40 years ago over in Nam and weren't really aware of it are now reconnected. Maybe this time the connection will never be broken.

On the other hand, as long as you had those albums, Olga, I guess the connection was never really broken, right?

Anyway, very glad to hear your efforts bore fruit. Good work!

By the way, what clinched the deal? Who read or heard what and where? Was it the New York Times that did the trick? And he was in Florida, right? Kind of far away from New York, eh? Closer to you than you thought.

.
