My Grandfather was a past Post Commander of the Old Town, ME chapter of the VFW, and was active in the politics of it in the aftermath of WWII which he served in Germany.
Myself, and this is not to say that all VFW posts are like this, but I have NOT had a good initiation with the VFW.
When the VA was screwing me around, I approached the VFW for help and assistance. I was greeted by a drunk VFW Commander who agreed to help me ONLY if I became a Lifetime Memeber of the organization.
Sorry, I don't work like that...that was my first impression as a Veteran of a Foreign conflict...so any hope of me ever becoming a member or supporting them in any way, fashion, or form is forever gone with me.
